gradient

The placement of 5" squares looks patchwork at first glance.
You don't see the gradient color range until the quilt
is quarter folded. That is the beauty of this design.

greens, oranges, browns...

black, grays, reds...

browns, greens, gold...

navy, blues, greens and burgundy.

The back is Robert Kaufman "widescreen", cross hatch print in yarrow or golden yellow with a checker board design spliced in near the top from additional 5" squares.

a quilt in a day....that took a bit longer...

This framed square design is my favorite to create.  I decided to put one together in a new color range of shades of blue, gray and yellows.  It took longer because I had to cut out more squares and shashing out of new colors of gray, blue and yellow.

Now in the ...shop

wip - quilted

Woke up to temps in the single digits here in the Ozarks. At least the SUN is shining. Grabbed some coffee and restoked the wood stove to warm the bones. NO outside photos for me today.

Spent yesterday fabric shopping with a friend.  I was able to get this quilt quilted late afternoon and into the night.  Plans are to add the binding so that I can get it finished up and added to the shop....today. Already have another quilt in mind. That is after I refold all the fabric I bought yesterday.  Yes EQ I did purchase your fabrics and should have that mailed out by the weekend.

12.30.14
Didn't think I would get this one finished today.
But did.
Will soon be in the shop.

These two photos show the quilt back on the Gammill longarm quilter to free motion quilt the star. This was after I cut off all the threads from the straight line quilting and squared up the quilt.

Another day here in the Ozarks with the sun peaking thru for a short time this morning I still got out and hung the quilt on the line for photos this afternoon and they weren't too bad.  We need sun.

I used two different chambrays in this quilt.  A light weight poly/cotton chambray to frame/sash the squares.  A mig-weight cotton chambray used on the back. Both were thrifted pieces.

Straight line quilting was done everywhere but for the star.  That was quilted with a meandering free motion quilting, my favorite. Can you see the fmq star design in the photo above? A chambray blue thread was used for the quilting.

This was bound with pieced binding to pick up the patchwork from the front framed squares and to add interest to the large spaces of chambray on the back.

All that is left to do is to add the quilt label, wash and dry.

wip
Decided to do straight line quilting on this strip quilt and
as usual did some research online for the best
technique since this is the biggest quilt I've
done so far.

Plan hope to have the quilting finished today.
Would like to have the binding stitched on as well
so I can sit this evening and hand stitch the finish
while watching mindless tv.

Plan to have in the shop by the weekend.
That is if this rainy gloomy weather allows
me to take descent photos.

Then on to 2014 pumpkin harvest.
Lot's of chenille pumpkins and new prints this year.
